Saturday, November 24, 1888. 2 pages, small oblong format, in brown ink, on white cardstock with rounded corners. The singer informs her correspondent of a setback that forces her to reschedule their meeting: “Madam, I have just received a note from Miss Marie Buhl stating that she is unable to come tomorrow, Sunday. I therefore ask that you reschedule our meeting for Sunday, December 2, at 4:00 p.m. Best regards, C. Carvalho.” Caroline Miolan-Carvalho (1827–1895) was one of the most famous French opera singers of the 19th century. Remarkable for the range, flexibility, and virtuosity of her voice, she premiered several major roles in the French operatic repertoire, notably Marguerite in *Faust* (1859), Baucis in *Philémon et Baucis* (1860), and Juliette in *Roméo et Juliette* (1867) by Charles Gounod. She was also a highly regarded performer of works by Meyerbeer and Mozart. This card provides insight into her personal relationships and social engagements during the final years of her career.
