HARDELOT (Helen Rhodes, known as Guy d'). 1858–1936. Born at the Château d'Hardelot, near Boulogne-sur-Mer. A Franco-British composer and pianist, best known for her melodies and songs. Autograph letter signed “Guy d’Hardelot” to “Dear Mr. Delttini” [spelling of the name to be confirmed]. No place, no date. 1 page, large 12mo. LETTER REGARDING A PERFORMANCE OF THE OPERA CARMEN. The composer asks her correspondent to reschedule an appointment: “I have been forced, because of Carmen, to reschedule my morning meeting for Wednesday the 22nd at the same time.” A note attesting to her musical activities and artistic commitments. After working alongside Charles Gounod and Victor Maurel, Guy d’Hardelot achieved success with his compositions, including “I Know a Lovely Garden,” “I Think,” “Dawn,” and “A Bunch of Violets.” Slight foxing and creases from handling.
