BOURDIN (Roger) (1900–1973). French baritone at the Opéra-Co - Lot 16
BOURDIN (Roger) (1900–1973). French baritone at the Opéra-Comique. Autographed card addressed to a music critic. No place, March 15, 1927. 1 page, oblong in-8 format, in black ink, signed “Roger Bourdin.” An interesting autographed card addressed to “Monsieur Vuillemoz,” presumably the music critic Émile Vuillermoz, in which the baritone Roger Bourdin thanks his correspondent for his kindness and expresses his gratitude. “Thank you always, my dear Monsieur Vuillermoz, for your kindness. I truly do not know how to thank you; I beg you, please let me know; I would so much like to please you, and I want you to be assured of the gratitude of your most indebted friend.” Roger Bourdin (1900–1973), a French baritone, was one of the leading figures of the Opéra-Comique in the 20th century. Prized for his vocal and dramatic talents, he performed numerous roles from the French opera repertoire and was an active participant in Parisian musical life for several decades. This card bears witness to the relationships between opera singers and music critics in interwar Paris. Its particularly warm and grateful tone illustrates the importance of critical support in the careers of opera singers. A charming expression of gratitude from a baritone of the Opéra-Comique to a prominent figure in Parisian music criticism. In good overall condition. A few slight signs of handling and minor signs of age. Handwriting and signature are clearly legible.
