BAUDRIER (Yves) (1906–1988). French composer. Co-founder, al - Lot 6
BAUDRIER (Yves) (1906–1988). French composer. Co-founder, along with André Jolivet, Olivier Messiaen, and Daniel-Lesur, of the Jeune France group in 1936. Composer of numerous film scores. Autograph letter signed “Yves Baudrier” to a friend. No place, January 6, 1951. 1 page, folio. An interesting letter devoted to his musical reflections, composition, and artistic concerns. Baudrier humorously refers to a disagreement with his correspondent regarding *Les Condamnés* and offers a personal reflection on the nature of excess and will: “Of course, friendship is based on perfect harmony. But that is precisely what nourishes it. ” He adds, with a touch of irony: “Secondly, you mention the ‘Condamnés.’ Our time is not prepared for elevators that go up; it prefers those that go down, yet they are one and the same. ” He goes on to discuss the pleasures and excesses of daily life: “Fruit jellies and chocolates truly provide wholesome reflections on the nature of excesses of appetite and gluttony. ” A letter that attests to the composer’s spiritual nature and his intellectual and artistic exchanges. A few creases from handling; in generally good condition.
