PATRIOTY. The Spectres!!! — Why have you made us suffer so m - Lot 258
PATRIOTY. The Spectres!!! — Why have you made us suffer so much? Paris, Deforet and César, booksellers and publishers, 64 Rue Neuve-des-Petits-Champs; Talons Printing House, Marché Saint-Honoré, 19, [1871]. Large lithograph enhanced with color, signed “Patrioty” in the stone. Plate No. 2 from the *Croquis républicains*. Napoleon III, slumped in an armchair, is confronted by the personifications of the sufferings endured by Paris during the war: Famine holding an emaciated child, Epidemic, Bombardment, and Combat. The names Avron, du Bourget, Montretout, and Châtillon are direct references to the battles of the Siege of Paris. A very fine colored print, whose highlights of blue, green, yellow, and red lend particular power to this piece of republican propaganda. A few foxing spots and signs of wear; in good overall condition.
