FARRÈRE (Claude). MADEMOISELLE DAX. A YOUNG GIRL. - Lot 92
FARRÈRE (Claude). MADEMOISELLE DAX. A YOUNG GIRL. Illustrated with fourteen drawings by L. Schulz. Paris, Henri Jonquières et Cie, “Les Beaux Romans” collection, 1922. In-8, 272 pp., paperback, embossed cover printed in red and black and adorned with a vignette, printed spine, vignette on the inside front cover. ILLUSTRATED EDITION WITH 14 ILLUSTRATIONS BY LÉON SCHULZ, including a frontispiece and striking black-and-white woodcuts, several of which depict urban and industrial landscapes of Lyon. This volume is the second in the “Les Beaux Romans” collection. ONE OF THE 1,100 COPIES ON RIVES VELIN PAPER, this one being No. 401. The colophon lists a total print run of 1,180 copies: 50 on Imperial Japanese paper, 30 on Holland Van Gelder paper, and 1,100 on Rives vellum, in addition to the non-commercial copies included in each of these categories. The copy presented here therefore belongs to the Rives run, the fourth and final paper type. This collation is confirmed by the bibliographically listed copies. A BEAUTIFUL COPY PRESERVED IN ITS ORIGINAL PUBLISHER’S BINDING, with its particularly decorative filled covers. A copy with wide margins, partly uncut. A few scattered foxing spots and pinholes, minor marks and discoloration on the cover, slight creases and rubbing on the head and foot and along the edges; minor, isolated weakness in the binding visible on certain quires. Overall, however, the book remains very presentable and desirable in its original condition.
