It is lavishly illustrated with plans and drawings within the text, 113 heliogravure photographs spread across 80 separate plates, and 4 color plates. A major study devoted to Romanesque art in the Loire Valley, particularly the complexes at Saint-Aignan d’Orléans, Germigny-des-Prés, Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire, Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher, and Selles-sur-Cher. The book focuses equally on architecture, monumental sculpture, and capital carvings, with a particularly rich collection of photographs. Upon its publication in 1956, the book was noted for the care taken in its descriptions, plans, and illustrations. A fine copy preserved in its original slipcase. Fresh orange cloth binding; interior clean and well-preserved. The illustrated dust jacket is missing. The slipcase shows slight scuffing and marks, with wear along the edges.
