CONSTANTIN (Yves de), *Liquidation du Monde*, followed by th - Lot 129
CONSTANTIN (Yves de), *Liquidation du Monde*, followed by the Devil’s Acceptance Speech at the Académie française. (*Les Dieux sans âme*). Paris, Émile-Paul, 1982. In-8, paperback, printed hardcover. First edition of the final version of the third and fourth parts of the tetralogy *Les Dieux sans âme*, a vast novelistic and philosophical cycle to which Yves de Constantin devoted a significant portion of his work. The volume brings together *Liquidation du Monde* and *The Devil’s Inaugural Address at the Académie Française*, two texts in which the author continues his reflection on the fate of modern civilization, the excesses of progress, and humanity’s place in a world dominated by technology. Through a style imbued with irony, satire, and metaphysical meditation, Yves de Constantin develops an ambitious critique of the contemporary world. The tetralogy contrasts humanity’s great spiritual aspirations with the impersonal forces that tend to reduce humanity to its purely material dimension. The final installments of the cycle, gathered here, take on a particularly visionary and polemical tone, blending philosophical reflection, speculative fiction, and literary fantasy. The work is of definite bibliographic interest, as the author specifies in his preface that only the versions published between 1973 and 1982 should be considered definitive, the earlier ones having been revised or disavowed. This edition thus represents the culmination of a rewriting process undertaken over several decades. Numbered copy 315 H.C., not for sale, from a limited print run of 780 copies, including copies on Japanese paper, on Corot de Navarre vellum, and press copies. Copies marked H.C. were reserved for select recipients and were not intended for sale. A very fine copy preserved in its original paperback binding with a filled-in cover. The definitive, non-commercial edition of a unique work blending a novel of ideas, satire, and philosophical reflection—a testament to an ambitious literary endeavor spanning more than half a century.
