ROCHEFORT (Victor-Henry de Rochefort-Luçay, known as Henri R - Lot 256
ROCHEFORT (Victor-Henry de Rochefort-Luçay, known as Henri Rochefort). Born in Paris in 1831 - died in 1913. Journalist, playwright and politician. Autograph letter signed "Henri Rochefort", addressed to "Mon cher ami". S.l., s.d. [after 1866]. 1 page in-8. Interesting letter in which Rochefort explains his hesitations about publishing a new work. Referring back to his writings in Le Soleil, he doubted the advisability of producing a volume, fearing that the texts would be artificially brought together. Above all, he stresses the low profitability of the enterprise, compared to his journalistic income, lucidly evoking the material constraints of publishing and the modesty of expected profits. He concludes by temporarily renouncing any further publication, preferring to wait for a better return on his first volume. A revealing document on the economic condition of the writer-journalist under the Second Empire, and Rochefort's pragmatic view of the publishing world. Autograph signature.
