PUSEY (Edward Bouverie, known as). - Lot 243
PUSEY (Edward Bouverie, known as). Pusey (near Oxford), 1800 - 1882. Anglican theologian, major figure in the Oxford movement. Autograph letter signed with his initials, in English, addressed to Lord Nelson. S.l.n.d. 1 page (¾ in-8). Letter written while Pusey is unwell and bedridden, in which he expresses his disagreement with a compromise that would lead to him and his colleague Liddon leaving the ministry. This short bill bears witness to the internal tensions within the Anglican Church and the doctrinal firmness of one of its leading representatives. An interesting piece, both religious and doctrinal, from a central figure of nineteenth-century Anglican renewal.
