BERVILLE (Albin de, known as Saint-Albin). - Lot 15
BERVILLE (Albin de, known as Saint-Albin). Born in Amiens in 1788 - died in 1868. French magistrate and politician, member of Parliament, known in particular as a defender of Paul-Louis Courier and Béranger. Autograph letter signed "Berville", addressed to M. Guillaume, secretary to the King's Cabinet. S.l., February 2, 1831. 1 page in-12 square. Address on verso. Brief but significant letter of recommendation written at the beginning of the July Monarchy, in which Berville supports the candidacy or situation of Madame Legris, whom he presents as "a worthy and excellent woman". This bill bears witness to the practice of recommendation in the administrative and political circles of the time, where personal relationships and written interventions played an essential role. An interesting document from a committed lawyer and parliamentarian, at a pivotal moment in the reorganization of institutions after 1830. Autograph signature.
