Leon Arthur Tutundjian was an Armenian painter and sculptor, born in 1905 in Amasya and died in 1968 in Paris. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul before continuing his training at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Tutundjian was influenced by art movements such as Cubism and Surrealism, but developed his own distinctive style that blended abstraction and figurative representation. He is particularly known for his portraits, nudes, and still lifes, as well as for his sculptures in bronze sculptures. During World War II, Tutundjian was active in the French Resistance and used his art to convey political messages. After the war, he became a professor at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. His work has been exhibited in many museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo and the National Museum of the Republic of Armenia. Tutundjian is considered one of the most important artists of the Armenian diaspora and has played an important role in promoting Armenian culture in France.
