This lot was described by Mrs. Linda Nataf-Goldmann Jacques Majorelle left Nancy in 1903 after attending the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He moved to Paris and attended the Académie Julian. In 1909, he began to travel in search of light and color. He travelled to Italy, Spain and Egypt, but it was Morocco and particularly Marrakech that fascinated him to the point of settling there in 1917. Morocco in all its splendor and diversity inspired Majorelle throughout his life, kasbahs, markets, nudes, and of course his garden. Our painting presents two young women dressed in blue dresses. This meeting under the palm trees bending under the golden dates is of great serenity. What do they say to each other? The pensive young girl seems to be waiting for an advice from her elder. This work is appeased. All the universe of the painter is there, the emblematic blue, the women, the garden, in a perfectly balanced composition.
