SIEGEL (Jerry), SHUSTER (Joe), and BORING (Wayne). Superman. Volume 4: 1940–1941. Futuropolis, n.d. Large oblong-format album, with an illustrated hardcover by the publisher in black, white, red, and yellow. The front cover depicts Clark Kent revealing his Superman costume, with the title in large red letters. The back cover features a scene of Superman flying over a city. French first edition in this format of the Superman series, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. It collects several stories published in 1940 and 1941, including “Sabotage,” “The Kidnappers,” “The Shy One,” and “Lois Is Out of Work.” The adventures are reproduced in black and white, in their original horizontal panel layout, capturing the artistic style of the famous superhero’s early years. The reproduced panels notably showcase the work of Wayne Boring, who contributed to Superman’s artistic development. Condition: very good overall condition. Hardcover in good condition, vivid colors, a few slight signs of handling and minor scuffing on the corners, particularly on the upper right corner of the front cover. Spine in good condition. Interior is fresh, panels are clean, and the printing has good contrast.
