SIEGEL (Jerry), SHUSTER (Joe), and BURNLEY (Jack). Superman. - Lot 239
SIEGEL (Jerry), SHUSTER (Joe), and BURNLEY (Jack). Superman. Volume 3: 1941. Futuropolis, n.d. Large oblong-format album, publisher’s illustrated cardboard cover in black, white, blue, and yellow, with a printed spine. The front cover features a scene showing Superman rescuing a young woman, with the title in large blue letters. The back cover is illustrated in black and white, depicting Superman bursting through a wall. French first edition in this format of the Superman series, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. It reproduces stories published in 1941, notably “Superman vs. the Scientists of Sudden Death.” The adventures are reproduced in black and white, in a presentation that captures the graphic style of American comic books from that era. This volume notably includes panels attributed to Jack Burnley, one of the artists who contributed to the early years of the famous superhero. Condition: very good overall condition. Clean hardcover, well-preserved colors, with a few slight signs of handling and minor scuffing on the corners and endpapers. Spine in good condition. Interior is fresh, pages are clean, and the printing has good contrast.
