MORRIS and GOSCINNY (René). — Lucky Luke. The Daltons Redeem - Lot 143
MORRIS and GOSCINNY (René). — Lucky Luke. The Daltons Redeem Themselves. In-4, softcover with illustrations by the publisher, square spine, 46 color plates. Lucky Luke Collection, No. 26. First edition in album format of this Lucky Luke adventure, illustrated by Morris based on a story by René Goscinny. In this episode, the famous Dalton brothers are granted clemency, allowing them to regain their freedom on the condition that they renounce crime for good. Lucky Luke is tasked with overseeing their reintegration into society and ensuring their good behavior. But the four bandits, despite their apparent efforts, find it very difficult to give up their old ways. Originally published in the magazine *Spirou*, this adventure is part of the golden age of collaboration between Morris and René Goscinny. The authors humorously explore the theme of criminal redemption and the contradictions of the four Dalton brothers, whose contrasting personalities constitute one of the series’ most famous sources of comedy. The cover is particularly expressive, dominated by red, and depicts the four Daltons—in descending order of height—dressed in their traditional yellow-and-black striped outfits, but now adorned with wings and halos, ironically symbolizing their conversion to virtue. Condition: A fine copy showing slight signs of wear and some scuffing on the corners and edges. The cover retains particularly fresh and vivid colors. The interior is slightly yellowed, with no major apparent defects.
