MORRIS and GOSCINNY. — Lucky Luke. The Daltons' Escape. - Lot 133
MORRIS and GOSCINNY. — Lucky Luke. The Daltons' Escape. Marcinelle-Charleroi, Éditions Dupuis, 1966. Quarto, publisher's illustrated paperback, square spine, 46 color plates. Lucky Luke Collection, No. 15. Reprint of the 1966 edition, bearing the copyright notice “© 1966 by Morris and Ed. J. Dupuis, Fils & Cie.” The back cover features a design of wooden planks, displaying eight titles from the collection, including *Billy the Kid*, *The Daltons in the Blizzard*, *The Daltons Are Still on the Run*, *The Caravan*, and *The 20th Cavalry*. Art by Morris and story by René Goscinny. Originally published as a graphic novel in 1960, *The Dalton Escape* is one of the first major adventures featuring the four famous Dalton brothers—Joe, William, Jack, and Averell—who have become Lucky Luke’s recurring adversaries. After successfully escaping from prison, the Daltons set out to take revenge on the lone cowboy responsible for their previous arrests. Led by Joe, the four brothers devise one scheme after another to track down their enemy, but their differing personalities and clumsiness regularly thwart their plans. This album is a particularly fine example of the collaboration between Morris and René Goscinny, combining the effectiveness of humorous artwork with a storyline rich in twists and turns and farcical situations. The cover, which is particularly expressive, depicts the four Daltons forming a human pyramid, with the smallest one carrying a heavy prison ball and chain. Lucky Luke and Jolly Jumper observe the scene from the top of the composition, against a green and yellow background with contrasting colors. Condition: A fine copy. The front cover has fresh, vibrant colors, with slight signs of handling and some scuffing on the corners and edges. The back cover is well-preserved, with subtle signs of wear. The interior is slightly yellowed, with no major apparent flaws.
