WOLINSKI (Georges) — “My Rent Has Doubled” - Lot 302
WOLINSKI (Georges) — “My Rent Has Doubled” “My rent has doubled, and you’re surprised I’m doubling the price of the special?! ” Black ink drawing on paper, signed “Wolinski” in the lower right corner. No place, no date. Approximately 1 page, in-4 size. HUMOROUS DRAWING ON RISING RENTS AND PROSTITUTION. A woman, clearly a prostitute, stands over a man lying on a bed. She explains to him: “My rent has doubled, and you’re surprised I’m doubling the price of the ‘special’?! ” The man replies: “This slip-up might jeopardize my recovery plan...” Through this dialogue, Wolinski subverts economic and financial terminology to ironically denounce the consequences of the rising cost of living. A particularly expressive composition, characteristic of his humor, which blends social satire and eroticism. Minor signs of handling.
