WOLINSKI (Georges) — “I’ve Lost My Guru” - Lot 300
WOLINSKI (Georges) — “I’ve Lost My Guru” French editorial cartoonist and caricaturist (1934–2015). A leading figure in French satirical journalism, he contributed to Hara-Kiri, Charlie Hebdo, and Le Nouvel Observateur. “I’ve lost my guru, but luckily my senile grandpa is still here.” Black-ink drawing on a sheet of white paper, signed “Wolinski” in the lower right corner. No place, no date. Approximately 1 page, in-4 size. AMUSING SATIRICAL DRAWING DEPICTING A YOUNG WOMAN STANDING NEXT TO A WEALTHY OLD MAN. An elegant young woman, wearing a short dress, stands next to a smiling elderly man wearing glasses, holding a cigar, and leaning on a cane. The caption, placed in a speech bubble, adds a touch of wit to the scene: “I lost my guru, but luckily my senile grandpa is still here.” With his irreverent humor, Wolinski illustrates the relationships between money, seduction, and age differences—recurring themes in his work. A well-composed drawing in black ink, occupying the central portion of a large sheet. A few slight signs of handling.
