VISCONTI (Louis-Tullius-Joachim) (1791–1853). - Lot 296
VISCONTI (Louis-Tullius-Joachim) (1791–1853). French architect, born into a famous family of archaeologists. Architect of Napoleon I’s tomb at Les Invalides and numerous Parisian monuments. Autograph letter signed “Monsieur.” No place, April 12, 1845. 1 page, in-8. Visconti refers to a matter concerning the safekeeping of drawings and their possible handover to the appropriate authority. He informs his correspondent that certain drawings, previously kept in a portfolio, should have been turned over, but that their owner wishes to keep them. “Your latest note [...] Monsieur des [...] having been kind enough to give me [...] I had indeed thought that my drawings had been returned, but that is not [...]” The architect clarifies that he cannot hand over these documents without first obtaining the necessary information or authorizations, and assures his correspondent of his willingness to resolve the matter. An interesting letter on the circulation and preservation of graphic documents in 19th-century artistic and administrative circles. Old creases, some foxing, and slight signs of handling. Address written on the reverse.
