VISCONTI (Louis-Tullius-Joachim) (1791–1853). French archite - Lot 295
VISCONTI (Louis-Tullius-Joachim) (1791–1853). French architect of Italian origin. Architect of Napoleon I’s tomb at Les Invalides and designer of numerous Parisian buildings. Autograph letter signed “L. Visconti” to “Monsieur.” Paris, April 28, 1853. 1 page, in-8 format, on letterhead of the “Palais des Tuileries—Architect’s Office.” Visconti responds to his correspondent regarding documents he wishes to retain, despite a possible request for their return from the administration. “Your learned note would persuade me to clip the victims’ wings, were it not for my need to refer the matter to the authorities… ” He explains that he must consult the competent authority before making a decision and asks his correspondent to give him a little more time: “… I remain at your disposal, happy to take any opportunity to meet with you. ” An interesting letter written a few months before Visconti’s death on December 29, 1853, on beautiful official letterhead from the Tuileries Palace, where the architect was employed. A few old creases, minor foxing, and slight signs of handling. In good overall condition.
