SÉGOFFIN (Victor) (1867–1925). French sculptor and engraver. - Lot 286
SÉGOFFIN (Victor) (1867–1925). French sculptor and engraver. Winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1897. Student of Jules Cavelier and Louis-Ernest Barrias. Autograph letter signed “Ségoffin” to a lady. [Paris], October 21, 1911. 3 pages, in-8 format, on letterhead from 17 Rue La Rochefoucauld. A lovely letter in which Victor Ségoffin warmly thanks his correspondent for her congratulations and updates her on the progress of a sculpture. “Thank you, my dear Madam, from the bottom of my heart for your very kind and gracious congratulations, which, coming from you, are doubly precious to me.” He then mentions the imminent completion of a bust and expresses particular satisfaction with the marble he has just received: “The bust is coming along nicely (the marble), and the finishing touches are almost complete. I was able to find some very beautiful marble, and I hope you will be entirely satisfied. ” He concludes by extending his respectful regards to his correspondent’s mother and reiterating his deep gratitude to her. An interesting exchange regarding the sculptor’s work, describing the various stages of creating a marble bust, from the selection of the material to the final touches on the work. Some old creases, a few slight signs of wear. In good overall condition.
