ROGER-DUCASSE (Jean) (1873–1954), French composer and educator, a student of Gabriel Fauré at the Paris Conservatory. Autograph letter signed “Roger-Ducasse” to a friend. Pichebouc, Le Taillan-Médoc (Gironde), August 10 [1935, according to an old annotation]. 1/2 page in-4, on Pichebouc letterhead. Letter regarding an appointment in music education, in which Roger-Ducasse discusses the administrative delays and uncertainties surrounding an anticipated decision. “I have learned from the newspapers of your appointment to the Legion of Honor. Everything comes to those who wait, and you have waited…” He adds humorously: “But what if the wait itself is even more sublime than the result—and you know I’m one of those people. ” Jean Roger-Ducasse, composer and professor at the Paris Conservatory, was notably a student of Gabriel Fauré, whose musical teachings he carried on. He trained several generations of French musicians. Paper showing old creases, some wrinkles, and minor signs of wear.
