NIEUWERKERKE (Alfred Émilien O'Hara, Count of) (1811–1892). - Lot 268
NIEUWERKERKE (Alfred Émilien O'Hara, Count of) (1811–1892). French sculptor, Director General of the Imperial Museums under Napoleon III, Superintendent of Fine Arts, and member of the Institut. Autograph letter to Mr. Labencki. Paris, January 5, 1853. 2/3 of an in-8 page, on letterhead of the Emperor’s Household, General Directorate of the Imperial Museums. Official document issued by the administration of the Imperial Museums, concerning the organization of an evening reception at the Louvre Palace. “Count de Nieuwerkerke requests that Mr. Labencki do him the honor of spending the evening at the Louvre on Friday, January 6.” A testament to the social and artistic life of the Second Empire, at a time when Count de Nieuwerkerke wielded considerable influence over the administration of the Fine Arts and the imperial collections. The document features an interesting typographic letterhead from the Emperor’s Household. A few creases and minor signs of wear.
