LE SIDANER (Henri) (1862–1939). - Lot 248
LE SIDANER (Henri) (1862–1939). French Post-Impressionist painter. Born in Port Louis (Mauritius), Henri Le Sidaner is particularly renowned for his intimate landscapes, gardens, and scenes bathed in soft, tranquil light. Autograph letter signed “Le Sidaner” to “My dear friend.” No place or date. 1 page, in-8 format, in black ink on white paper. Horizontal fold and slight signs of handling. A beautiful letter in which Henri Le Sidaner reaffirms his admiration for the poet Paul Fort and expresses his delight at having participated in the tribute paid to him. The painter warmly thanks his correspondent for sending a card and expresses his satisfaction at having been able to show his affection for the poet: “I was very touched by your kind card and ask you to accept my best wishes.” He then refers to the collective tribute paid to Paul Fort, to which he is particularly sensitive: “... the sympathy you have received, and I remain as faithful as ever in my admiration for the great poet.” This letter attests to the bonds of esteem uniting the Post-Impressionist painter with the poet Paul Fort, a prominent figure in French literary and artistic circles during the first half of the 20th century. It offers an interesting insight into the relationship between painting and poetry in the artistic circles of the time.
