LABORDE (Rosine) (1824–1907). French opera singer, lyric art - Lot 236
LABORDE (Rosine) (1824–1907). French opera singer, lyric artist, and voice teacher. Autograph letter signed “Rosine Laborde,” addressed to Mr. Dalloz. No place, no date (Wednesday). 3 pages, in-8 format, in black ink on laid paper. An interesting autograph letter in which the famous opera singer thanks her correspondent for securing a box for her for a performance of *Aida*, which she will ultimately be unable to attend. “Dear Mr. Dalloz, I was very pleased, upon returning from the opera competition, to find the box for *Aida*; looking forward to going to the theater, I headed toward the Salle Ventadour [...] So the little celebration is postponed until Thursday, and I won’t miss it.” She then expresses her gratitude for this thoughtful gesture: “You cannot imagine the childlike joy I feel when I go to the theater. ” This correspondence attests to Rosine Laborde’s devotion to the world of opera and her undiminished enthusiasm for theatrical performances. Rosine Laborde (1824–1907), also known as Mlle. Villaume, was a French opera singer and voice teacher. She was active in 19th-century Parisian musical life and devoted herself in particular to teaching voice. Among her students were several artists who went on to have brilliant careers. A few old creases, slight foxing, and signs of handling. In good overall condition.
