[Paris], September 20, 1887. 1 page, in-8. A CHARMING LETTER IN WHICH GOUNOD EAGERLY AWAITS POEMS BY GEORGES BOYER INTENDED TO BE SET TO MUSIC. The composer writes to his publisher and friend Georges Hartmann (1843–1900), who collaborated with many French musicians of his time. “Here is the matter in a nutshell—I am awaiting the poem by Georges Boyer. ” Gounod concludes affectionately: “Yours sincerely, Ch. Gounod.” Georges Boyer (1850–1931), a French poet and librettist, collaborated notably with several composers of his time. This letter attests to the relationship Gounod maintained with his publisher and the care he took in selecting the poetic texts intended for his compositions.
