GODARD (Benjamin) (1849–1895), French composer, violinist, a - Lot 180
GODARD (Benjamin) (1849–1895), French composer, violinist, and conductor, best known for *Jocelyn*, *La Vivandière*, and numerous instrumental works. Autograph note signed “Benjamin Godard” to a correspondent. No place, no date. 1 page, in-12 format. A brief invitation addressed to a poet, likely in the context of professional and artistic relationships. “Dear and great poet, sing my name. Meet him at his home on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.” This correspondence attests to the relationships Benjamin Godard maintained with the writers and poets of his time, several of whom contributed to the creation of opera librettos and vocal compositions. Paper showing some old creases.
