GAVEAUX-SABATIER (Émilie-Suzanne Bénazet, known as Émilie) (1820–1896), French composer, lyric soprano, and woman of letters, also known as Madame Bénazet. Autograph musical manuscript signed “E. Gaveaux Sabatier,” titled “Romance.” October 12, 1858. 1 oblong in-4 page, entirely handwritten, with an autograph dedication to Madame Bénazet. An interesting page of handwritten music featuring a romance for voice with accompaniment, dedicated to Madame Bénazet. The composer has notated several staves, accompanied by lyrics and expressive markings. “When God, whom we adore [...]” The manuscript features various musical markings, including dynamics, accidentals, and slurs, reflecting the care taken in writing this composition. Émilie Gaveaux-Sabatier pursued a career as a singer and composer in Parisian salons. She was also the author of several romances and vocal pieces. A beautiful musical piece, entirely in the composer’s own hand, dated and signed, serving as a testament to women’s musical creativity in the mid-19th century. Some slight signs of wear.
