FINI (Leonor) (1908–1996). French surrealist painter, lithog - Lot 162
FINI (Leonor) (1908–1996). French surrealist painter, lithographer, theater set designer, and writer of Italian origin. Born in Buenos Aires. Autograph letter signed “Leonor” to Pierre Besse. No place or date. 2 pages, small folio size, in blue ink, on a sheet folded in half. An amusing letter in which Leonor Fini offers her correspondent particularly detailed medical advice on how to treat the flu. Concerned for Pierre Besse’s health, the artist recommends several medications and specifies the dosages: “Take at least 6 Laroscorbine with Vittel water, and one spoonful of Uroformine in water (3 times a day)—this is very important for clearing up the flu.” She goes on to recommend quinil to bring down the fever: “This quinil is to bring down the fever—take 4 during the day; it’s not dangerous.” She also mentions Allergac, intended to combat the common cold, before concluding affectionately: “Kisses. Leonor. ” A charming testament to Leonor Fini’s concern for her friend Pierre Besse, revealing a spontaneous, familiar, and protective side of the artist’s personality.
