ESCUDIER (Marie-Pierre) (1818–1880), French journalist, music critic, and publisher; founder, along with his brother Léon, of *La France musicale*. Autograph letter signed “M. Escudier” to Mr. Prévost. Paris, April 13, 1858. 1 page, in-8 format, on letterhead from the newspaper *Le Réveil*, M. and L. Escudier, editors, 21 Rue Choiseul. An interesting letter regarding the publication of advertisements in the newspaper *Le Réveil*. Marie Escudier asks her correspondent to provide advertisements for the next issue of her newspaper: “I was unable to do so yesterday without taking up your time, when I had the pleasure of seeing you. Please allow me to ask you today for permission to begin running your advertisements in the next issue of *Le Réveil*, as they are undoubtedly the most useful tool for your administration. ” He notes that advertisements from several industrial companies are already being published and hopes to increase their number. He concludes by asking his correspondent to reply promptly so that the ads can be included in the next issue. This letter provides insight into the journalistic and commercial activities of Marie Escudier, who, along with her brother Léon, played an important role in the development of the French music press in the 19th century. The paper shows some old creases.
