DUBOIS (Théodore). Signed autograph letter. November 20, 192 - Lot 144
DUBOIS (Théodore). Signed autograph letter. November 20, 1922. DUBOIS (Théodore) (1837–1924), French composer and organist, director of the Paris Conservatory from 1896 to 1905. Autograph letter signed “Th. Dubois” to a friend. No place, November 20, 1922. 1 page, in-16 format. A short letter in which the composer regrets that he cannot accommodate his correspondent due to a lack of space: “How happy I would be to have you here! But alas! I have no room to offer you!” Théodore Dubois served notably as choirmaster at the Church of Sainte-Clotilde, then at the Church of La Madeleine, where he succeeded Camille Saint-Saëns at the main organ. As a professor of composition and later director of the Paris Conservatory, he played a significant role in French musical life in the late 19th century.
