DUBOIS (Théodore) (1837–1924), French composer, organist, an - Lot 136
DUBOIS (Théodore) (1837–1924), French composer, organist, and educator; winner of the Prix de Rome in 1861. Autograph card signed “Th. Dubois” to Constant Moyaux (1835–1911), French architect and winner of the Prix de Rome. No place, no date [circa 1884]. 1 page, in-16 format, on a card edged in black. An interesting card regarding a performance of his opera *Aben-Hamet*. “My dear Moyaux—Of course I will come—Only one thing might prevent me: a rehearsal of *Aben-Hamet* that would take place that evening—If that were the case, I would let you know by telegram. Where is dinner?” Théodore Dubois is referring here to his opera *Aben-Hamet*, which premiered in 1884 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. This correspondence attests to the friendship between the composer and the architect Constant Moyaux, both of whom were residents of the Villa Medici in Rome after winning the Prix de Rome in their respective disciplines. Card with a black border, bearing an old date annotation, “1884,” written in pencil.
