DUBOIS (Théodore) (1837–1924), French composer, organist, an - Lot 128
DUBOIS (Théodore) (1837–1924), French composer, organist, and educator; director of the Paris Conservatory from 1896 to 1905. Autograph card signed “Th. Dubois” to a friend [Maurice Emmanuel, according to the old record]. Paris, November 17, 1909. 2 pages, oblong in-12 format, on a card bearing his address: 201 Boulevard Pereire. An interesting postcard concerning efforts with the ministry and the activities of Louis Liard. “Well! Has it been signed? I don’t see anything in the newspapers. But there’s no danger. Mr. Liard and I met with the Minister last Thursday at the Élysée, and you would have had to cover your ears if you’d been there!” Théodore Dubois reassures his correspondent about the favorable outcome of an administrative matter, while mentioning a forceful intervention with the minister: “The Minister said: ‘But it’s as good as done.’ — Keep me posted. ” Louis Liard (1846–1917), a French philosopher and administrator, served notably as vice-rector of the Paris Academy and played a major role in the organization of French higher education. This correspondence attests to the influence Théodore Dubois wielded in institutional circles and to his efforts to support the interests of his relatives and colleagues. Card showing some slight signs of wear.
