DUBOIS (Théodore) (1837–1924), French composer, organist, an - Lot 125
DUBOIS (Théodore) (1837–1924), French composer, organist, and educator; director of the Paris Conservatory from 1896 to 1905. Autograph letter signed “Th. Dubois” to a friend. Rosnay (Marne), September 30, 1898. 2 pages, small oblong in-12 format, on cardstock. Letter regarding a meeting with architect Victor-Auguste Blavette and the organization of a gathering at the Institute. “Thank you for your letter and for your dedication to our cause. I would very much like to attend your meeting with Mr. Blavette, but the time of 3:15 p.m. is inconvenient for me, as the Institute’s session begins at 3:30 p.m.” The composer suggests changing the time of the meeting: “If the meeting with Mr. Blavette could take place at 2:00 p.m. at my office, that would suit me very well.” He concludes by asking his correspondent to convey his regards to his aunt and mentions a visit to the hospice in Beaune. Victor-Auguste Blavette (1850–1933), a French architect and winner of the Prix de Rome, was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts. This letter attests to the professional relationships Théodore Dubois maintained with members of the Institut de France and Parisian artistic circles. The card shows some slight signs of handling.
