DUBOIS (Théodore) (1837–1924), French composer, organist, an - Lot 118
DUBOIS (Théodore) (1837–1924), French composer, organist, and educator; director of the Paris Conservatory from 1896 to 1905. Autograph letter signed “Th. Dubois” to Maurice Emmanuel. Paris, February 16, 1917. 1 page, in-8 format, on letterhead bearing his address, 201 Boulevard Pereire, with handwritten return address on the reverse. A short letter addressed to the composer and musicologist Maurice Emmanuel (1862–1938), in which Dubois expresses concern about an urban development project: “No news about Rue de Châteaudun. What is the number—and the name of the establishment?” Maurice Emmanuel, a French composer and musicologist, was notably a student of Théodore Dubois at the Paris Conservatory. This correspondence attests to the ties between the two musicians. Handwritten address on the reverse, addressed to Maurice Emmanuel, 42 Rue de Grenelle, Paris VII, with a stamp and postmark dated February 16, 1917. Small tear with a missing section of paper on the right edge, without affecting the handwritten text.
