DUBOIS (Théodore) (1837–1924), French composer, organist, an - Lot 113
DUBOIS (Théodore) (1837–1924), French composer, organist, and educator; director of the Paris Conservatory from 1896 to 1905. Autograph card signed “Th. Dubois” to a friend. Rosnay (Marne), [circa 1913]. 1 page, oblong in-12 format. A short thank-you note in which the composer humorously refers to an event whose nature he does not yet know: “Thank you very much, dear friend. What an event! A few days’ rest, and it will have vanished! But what a danger we have escaped!” Théodore Dubois served as choirmaster at the Church of Sainte-Clotilde, then at the Church of La Madeleine, where he succeeded Camille Saint-Saëns at the main organ. He directed the Paris Conservatory from 1896 to 1905. The card bears an old annotation on the reverse, placing its date of writing approximately in 1913.
