DILLON (Juliette) (1823–1854) - Lot 108
DILLON (Juliette) (1823–1854) French pianist, composer, and music critic; founder and editor-in-chief of *L'Avenir musical*. Autograph letter signed “Juliette Dillon,” addressed to Mr. Ledru, administrator of the Opera. Paris, February 21, 1853. 1 p. in-4, in brown ink, on printed letterhead of *L'Avenir musical*, 3 Rue Le Peletier, Paris. An interesting letter in which Juliette Dillon insistently requests tickets for an Opera performance. She emphasizes that she did not request tickets for previous performances, notably for *Louise Miller*, and asks her correspondent to kindly grant her new request: “I did not ask you for anything for *Louise Miller* or for any other occasion; please therefore allow me to insist in a very special and urgent manner that you kindly provide me with tickets for tonight’s performance. ” She concludes by expressing her thanks in advance. An interesting insight into the practices of music criticism and the relationship between the specialized press and the Paris Opera in the mid-19th century. Some old creases, a few foxing spots, and slight signs of handling.
