DELVINCOURT (Claude) (1888–1954) - Lot 105
DELVINCOURT (Claude) (1888–1954) French composer and pianist, director of the Paris Conservatory. Autograph letter signed “Claude Delvincourt,” addressed to Dolorès de Silvera, regarding his work *Le Prieuré de Haquenouville*. No place or date [circa 1925]. 1½ pages, in-8 format, on lightly tinted vellum paper. An interesting letter regarding the preparation of a concert and the performance of his work *Le Prieuré de Haquenouville*, based on a libretto from Dieppe. Delvincourt informs his correspondent that the concert has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 26, and tells her that he has made the necessary arrangements to ensure the performance’s success: “I have been able to work things out: the concert has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 26, and I hope that by then your treatment will be completed to your complete satisfaction.” He notes that he has written to the singer to inform her of this change and hopes she will be able to attend the performance. He adds in a postscript: “And please, this mismatched envelope! I realized too late that I no longer have any that match the paper!! ” A charming exchange that offers a glimpse into the relationships between composers and performers in French musical life between the two world wars. Some older creases; slight signs of handling.
