D'INDY (Vincent) (1851–1931) - Lot 78
D'INDY (Vincent) (1851–1931) French composer and educator, a student of César Franck and co-founder of the Schola Cantorum in Paris. Autograph letter signed “Vincent d'Indy,” addressed to a correspondent. Paris, November 20, 1926. 1 p. in-12, in black ink. An interesting letter regarding the performance of his symphonic poem *Diptyque méditerranéen*, Op. 87, composed in 1925–1926. Vincent d’Indy informs his correspondent that, at the request of the Société des Concerts, he is sending a program note to accompany the performance of his work at the concert scheduled for December 5: “I have been asked by the Société des Concerts to send you the brief program note that is to accompany the performance of my *Diptyque* at the concert on December 5. ” He specifies that he is sending this program note and concludes with a polite closing: “You will find it enclosed, and I take this opportunity, dear Sir, to send you my warmest and most cordial regards.” An interesting account of the performance history of the *Diptyque méditerranéen*, one of Vincent d’Indy’s last major orchestral compositions, and of the composer’s relationship with the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire. An old horizontal crease, a few light stains, and signs of handling. A beautiful signature, heavily underlined.
