D'INDY (Vincent) (1851–1931) - Lot 75
D'INDY (Vincent) (1851–1931) French composer and educator, a student of César Franck and co-founder of the Schola Cantorum in Paris. Autograph letter signed “Vincent d’Indy,” addressed to a correspondent. No place or date [March 1903]. 1 p. in-8, in black ink, on laid paper with the Schola Cantorum’s printed letterhead. An interesting letter concerning the organization of a musical performance and the provision of a score for the students of the Schola Cantorum. Vincent d'Indy thanks his correspondent for his interest in his work and asks him to kindly send him a score for the students to study: “I would be very grateful, dear Sir, if you could return Piccinni’s *Iphigénie* to me by Tuesday, the 28th of this month, as I will need it for my class on Wednesday, the 29th.” He explains that this request is motivated by the needs of his teaching and reiterates the deadline by which he must have the score: “If necessary, you could have the Schola resume work on this score as early as the 30th.” He concludes by expressing his thanks and best regards. Insight into Vincent d’Indy’s pedagogical work and the study of the early operatic repertoire at the Schola Cantorum, particularly the works of Niccolò Piccinni. Original horizontal crease; some slight signs of handling.
