COSSOTTO (Fiorenza). Renowned Italian mezzo-soprano, one of - Lot 71
COSSOTTO (Fiorenza). Renowned Italian mezzo-soprano, one of the great operatic voices of the second half of the 20th century. Original black-and-white photograph with an autographed inscription reading “Fiorenza Cossotto.” No place, no date [circa 1960–1970]. Period silver print depicting the singer in stage costume alongside soprano Maria Callas during an opera performance. Autograph inscription in black ink, in Italian, addressed to a certain Giovanna: “Alla Sig. Giovanna [...] molto cordialmente Fiorenza Cossotto” (partial reading). On the reverse, a stamp from the Bernand Press Agency, 106 Rue de Richelieu, Paris. An interesting photograph bringing together two leading figures of Italian opera, Maria Callas and Fiorenza Cossotto. Fiorenza Cossotto made her debut at La Scala in Milan in 1957 and quickly established herself as one of the most remarkable mezzo-sopranos of her generation. She notably performed the great Verdi and bel canto roles, appearing on major international stages. This photograph captures the world of major postwar opera productions and is of particular interest due to its autographed inscription. There are some signs of handling, small marks, and old perforations in the upper part of the print.
