COLLIN (Charles-René) (1827–1911). French musician, organist - Lot 60
COLLIN (Charles-René) (1827–1911). French musician, organist, and composer. Autograph telegram signed “Charles René,” addressed to Mr. Flouest. Paris, January 24, 1895. 1 page, oblong in-8 format, on a telegram form of the French Republic, with a 50-centime stamp and postmark. Brown ink. A few creases and minor marginal wear. A cordial telegram in which the composer confirms an appointment with his correspondent. “Dear Sir, your note was delivered to me only last night at 9:30 p.m. I will be at your home from 3 to 4 p.m., entirely at your and Mrs. Flouest’s disposal.” He concludes with a polite closing and signs “Charles René.” Charles-René Collin, an organist and composer, is best known for his religious compositions and works for organ. He came from a family of Breton musicians and contributed to French musical life in the second half of the 19th century. This document is a record of his private correspondence and is also of philatelic interest due to its vintage telegram form, stamp, and postmark. Condition: Generally good condition. Horizontal crease, slight stains, minor wear, and small tears along the margins.
