CHIROL (Pierre) (1881–1953). French architect. President of the Society of Architects of Seine-Inférieure and Eure. Professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rouen. Handwritten card signed “Pierre Chirol,” addressed to an unidentified correspondent, regarding the organization of a conference on the fjords of Norway. No place, no date [circa 1924]. 2 pages, oblong in-12 format. Blue ink. Pierre Chirol reminds his correspondent of a promise to provide information regarding the organization of a conference for the Geographical Society. He tells him about his conversation with Paul Bureau, who is particularly interested in this proposal: “I spoke with Mr. Paul Bureau about this. He told me he would be very flattered to speak to the people of Rouen about the Norwegian fjords, Norwegian landscapes, etc. ” He notes that Paul Bureau, a professor at the Catholic Institute and a specialist in social issues, recently visited and studied Norway, and could provide the organizers with some particularly interesting slide presentations. Chirol also emphasizes how interesting this lecture would be for the Rouen public: “ I would be very pleased for our studies, of which he is a splendid champion. Young people would flock to this lecture, and perhaps [...]” He concludes by asking that people contact Mr. Bureau, whose Paris address he provides as 83 rue du Cherche-Midi. An interesting account of Pierre Chirol’s cultural and intellectual activities and his involvement in Rouen’s scholarly life. Handwritten card, written on both sides, with a few slight signs of handling.
