BRUNEAU (Alfred) (1857–1934) French musical naturalism. - Lot 31
BRUNEAU (Alfred) (1857–1934) French musical naturalism. French composer, friend and collaborator of Émile Zola, whose works he adapted for the opera stage, notably *Le Rêve*, *L'Attaque du moulin*, and *Messidor*. A leading figure in French musical naturalism. Autograph letter signed “Alfred Bruneau” to Louis Gallet. Paris, Friday, April 21 [undated]. 1 page, in-8. Mourning paper. A short, friendly letter addressed to his librettist Louis Gallet, with whom he collaborated notably on his first opera, *Kérim* (1887). “I have finished my first act and would very much like to play it for you. When are you available?” An interesting insight into the working relationship between the composer and his librettist, with Bruneau announcing the completion of the first act and requesting a meeting to play the music for him. The letter, dated Friday, April 21, bears the handwritten address “11 bis rue Violette” and a large autograph signature. A blue pencil mark crosses part of the text.
