WHEELER (Monroe). — Modern Drawings. - Lot 272
WHEELER (Monroe). — Modern Drawings. New York, The Museum of Modern Art, no date visible on the photographs. One in-4 volume, publisher’s cardboard binding with a dust jacket illustrated with a drawing. A book devoted to modern drawing, published under the direction of Monroe Wheeler for the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This publication presents an overview of the graphic explorations of major modern artists, highlighting the diversity of techniques and approaches to drawing during the first half of the 20th century. The book is illustrated with numerous black-and-white reproductions, including works by Cézanne, Picasso, and other major figures in modern art. Of particular note is a study by Paul Cézanne based on Houdon’s *Écorché*, circa 1895, from the Lillie P. Bliss collection. An interesting documentary work on modern drawing and the collections of the Museum of Modern Art. A good copy; the dust jacket is slightly worn.
