MASON (Raymond). — Colored Sculptures, Bronzes, and Drawings - Lot 169
MASON (Raymond). — Colored Sculptures, Bronzes, and Drawings 1952–1982. London, Arts Council of Great Britain, 1982. An oblong in-4 volume, paperback, with a color cover illustration of one of the artist’s sculptures. A major catalog devoted to thirty years of work by British sculptor Raymond Mason (1922–2010), published in conjunction with the exhibition held at the Serpentine Gallery in London from November 27, 1982, to January 9, 1983, and subsequently at the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford from February 6 to March 27, 1983. The book traces the evolution of his work, characterized by large-scale polychrome figurative compositions depicting crowds, figures, and scenes from everyday life. It features extensive black-and-white and color illustrations of sculptures, bronzes, and drawings. Notably included is a view of his sculptural ensemble depicting St. Mark’s Place in New York’s East Village. This publication is representative of Raymond Mason’s unique body of work, whose polychrome sculptures combine social observation, storytelling, and a sense of monumental composition. This copy shows some scuffing and signs of wear on the cover.
