Treasures of Italian Art. - Lot 293
Treasures of Italian Art. [Paris, mid-20th century]. Large folio, publisher’s beige cardboard binding, cloth spine, red title on the front cover. A luxurious, comprehensive volume devoted to the great masterpieces of Italian art. It opens with an essay by Émile Mâle, of the Académie française, titled *Vocation italienne*, which explores the continuity of Italian art from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and into the Baroque period. Extensively illustrated, featuring numerous full-page, color photographic reproductions of Italian paintings, sculptures, and major monuments. Among the artists featured are the masters of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, including Michelangelo. The printing is of exceptionally high quality, characteristic of the great illustrated art books of the postwar period. The hardcover is slightly yellowed and rubbed, with a few marks and small stains; the interior is well preserved.
