LASSAIGNE (Jacques). Spanish Painting: From Romanesque Fresc - Lot 175
LASSAIGNE (Jacques). Spanish Painting: From Romanesque Frescoes to El Greco. Geneva: Albert Skira, n.d. [mid-20th century]. Large quarto, publisher’s cloth binding with a color-illustrated dust jacket. A comprehensive overview by Jacques Lassaigne tracing the history of Spanish painting from Romanesque frescoes to El Greco. The book covers, in particular, the major collections of medieval mural painting, Catalan and Castilian painting, Ferrer Bassa, Borrassà, and the Spanish Primitives, before examining the influence of the Renaissance and the work of El Greco. Numerous full-page, mounted color reproductions—characteristic of Skira’s luxurious art publications—accompanied by extensive historical and critical commentary. Dust jacket is very worn, with significant tears, missing sections at the top and corners, scuffing, and soiling; the binding and interior appear to be in better condition.
