Tapestry. Paris, Éditions du Chêne, 1947. “La Tradition française” series, edited by André Lejard. In-4, publisher’s hardcover, illustrated color dust jacket. A book devoted to the history of French tapestry, from the Middle Ages and the great Gothic works to developments in subsequent centuries. The study focuses in particular on the evolution of composition, borders, inscriptions, and decoration, as well as the various centers of production. Abundant documentary illustrations, with black-and-white reproductions in the text and color plates, including several medieval tapestries and works from the 15th and 18th centuries. Dust jacket is heavily worn, with water stains, foxing, soiling, and small tears, particularly at the corners; interior is in satisfactory condition.
